The Stories We Tell: Social Justice, Anti-Racist, and Critical Consciousness Raising Pedagogy

Critical consciousness raising through storytelling is central to the development of anti-racist pedagogy. Examining personal stories provides educators with opportunities to push students towards a deeper understanding of their place in the world, and prepares students for social justice practice. Storytelling pedagogical tools are especially appropriate for a Franciscan institution committed to educating the whole person. Recommendations for expanding our commitment to anti-racism and consciousness raising at the pedagogical and programmatic levels are considered.
