In and Out of Time: Using the Paradigm of Liminality as a Formational Process for Counseling Students in the Franciscan Values

Session 4 — Presentation

The term liminality, derived from the Latin for threshold, signifies a time and place apart, a “moment in and out of time” in which transformation happens. Using the concept of “liminality,” two faculty from the Pastoral Clinical Mental Health Counseling (PCMHC) program explores the movement of counselors-in-training from positions of “neither here nor there” to a group, a communitas, forged through experiences in and exploration of the Franciscan tradition.
