“Everything Is Beautiful in Its Own Way”: Examining Beauty and Diversity in Popular Music

Session 1 — Presentation

The study of popular music can provide a familiar environment in which students can consider the nexus of two significant threads in the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition: respect for diversity as an expression of reverence for creation, and the significance of beauty as a catalyst for transformation. This session examines the opportunities and challenges associated with the incorporation of these threads into a course that satisfies the Fine Arts Core Experience requirement at Neumann University.
